Error accessing HP iLO3 with error ERR_SSL_BAD_RECORD_MAC_ALERT Problem Fixed

This post describes how to access a HP iLO3 webpage when all your webrowsers give the ERR_SSL_BAD_RECORD_MAC_ALERT error.

Why this problem occurs

Web browsers will give the ERR_SSL_BAD_RECORD_MAC_ALERT warning when visiting websites that use an older version of OpenSSL to provide the SSL connection. This will typically stop your computer accessing the website and in my case has stopped the HP iLO3 management website from loading.

Fixing the issue in Internet Explorer

It’s relatively easy to fix this issue in internet explorer. This can be done with the following steps.

First you need to access the internet options page in IE. This can be done by pressing the cog in the top right menu item and selecting “Internet Options”. Once here you will want to select the “Advanced” tab.

In the advanced tab you will want to scroll down to “Use TLS1.2” and uncheck it. Once this has been done the website will load properly.

If the server has not been set up with a trusted certificate there will be a certificate warning. You will want to set up a certificate your machine trusts so you are sure you are visiting the trusted machine.
