{"id":997,"date":"2018-02-07T13:00:30","date_gmt":"2018-02-07T13:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chewett.co.uk\/blog\/?p=997"},"modified":"2018-02-06T23:10:53","modified_gmt":"2018-02-06T23:10:53","slug":"installing-dropbox-fedora-27-xfce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chewett.co.uk\/blog\/997\/installing-dropbox-fedora-27-xfce\/","title":{"rendered":"Installing Dropbox on Fedora 27 XFCE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This blog post describes how you can install Dropbox on Fedora 27 XFCE.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Installing pre-requisite packages<\/h2>\n<p>Before we can install Dropbox we need to install a number of pre-requisite packages.<\/p>\n<p>The full command to install the required packages is:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo\u00a0dnf\u00a0install\u00a0libgnome\u00a0nautilus-extensions python-gpgme<\/pre>\n<p>The first two packages, <code>libgnome<\/code>\u00a0and\u00a0<code>nautilus-extensions<\/code>, are required by the Dropbox UI.\u00a0There is the assumption that when installing Dropbox you are running Gnome on Fedora. This means that if you are running Fedora with XFCE then these packages must be installed.<\/p>\n<p>The last package, <code>python-gpgme<\/code>,\u00a0is a wrapper around the gpgme command line tool. This allows Dropbox to use the GPG libraries to encrypt and verify data.<\/p>\n<h2>Downloading and Installing Dropbox<\/h2>\n<p>Once the required packages are installed we need to download the Dropbox rpm. This is available from the Dropbox Linux website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/install-linux\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/install-linux<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once the rpm is downloaded you run <code>rpm -i &lt;downloaded rpm&gt;<\/code>.\u00a0An example is as follows<\/p>\n<pre>rpm -i nautilus-dropbox-2015.10.28-1.fedora.x86_64.rpm<\/pre>\n<p>If the above packages haven&#8217;t been installed you may get a Failed dependencies error as below.<\/p>\n<pre>chewett@deathstar:~\/Downloads$ rpm -i nautilus-dropbox-2015.10.28-1.fedora.x86_64.rpm\r\nwarning: nautilus-dropbox-2015.10.28-1.fedora.x86_64.rpm: Header V3 RSA\/SHA1 Signature, key ID 5044912e: NOKEY\r\nerror: Failed dependencies:\r\nlibgnome &gt;= %{gnome_version} is needed by nautilus-dropbox-2015.10.28-1.fc10.x86_64\r\nlibnautilus-extension.so.1()(64bit) is needed by nautilus-dropbox-2015.10.28-1.fc10.x86_64\r\nnautilus-extensions &gt;= 2.16.0 is needed by nautilus-dropbox-2015.10.28-1.fc10.x86_64<\/pre>\n<p>If this occurs then you will need to follow the first paragraph detailing how to install the required packages.<\/p>\n<p>Once the rpm install has finished there will be a Dropbox icon in the menu bar.
