Fixing “Couldn’t switch to requested monitor resolution”
So far this has been tested to fix Slime Rancher, Hearthstone, and Elderscrolls Legends.
To fix this error you need to find the executable that is failing. In my case it was failing to launch SlimeRancher.exe
from Steam. This is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Slime Rancher
.
Once you have navigated to the folder where the executable is you will need to right-click on the executable and then press properties. Once you have done this you will get the properties window pop up. The compatibility tab needs to be selected. Once in this panel the fix is to check the “Disable full-screen optimisations”. Now just press Ok and it will be applied.
Once this has been done running the application should work as normal. I have tested this for slime rancher. If it works for you please comment below and I can add this to the main post to help others. Not to mention if you have any questions ask below.
Got this error when trying to run elderscrolls legends. Was to check the the disable full-screen optimisations that did it for me. many thanks (“,)
Awesome, Great to hear! I will add that to the article 🙂
I have currently been attempting to play Hollow Knight. A game I have been playing for quite some time (I have 140 hours on the thing.) I’ve been fiddling with it for a good bit, but to no avail. Eventually, I reach a point where the game itself runs (I can hear the bg music) but the visuals refuse to display. Thoughts?
Hi Poccri,
Whats the specifications of your computer/laptop? What CPU, Graphics card and RAM do you have?
Sup mate,
In my case i tried your way but still i get the same error on Ultimate Chicken Horse.
I guess in general many smaller games have this issue thus some bigger games don´t wanna run on my 1366×768 resulution like Rainbowsix.
Any ideas?
Greetings ThirstyBlood
Hi,
Could you post the full error message its giving? Im sorry I don’t have that game to test myself.
Theres no “Disable full-screen optimisations” choise in windows 7 ultiumate, can someone help?
After I did that, I still have problems. I’m on windows 10 and am trying to play “Home Wars” on steam. Even when I reconnected everything, shut it off and on again, and nothing works still.
